Fringe and the Force: Why You Absolutely Need to See La Guerre des Cônes

I didn’t plan on getting emotionally invested in a musical Star Wars parody, – furthermore set in the heart of Québec, but here we are.

Yesterday, as part of my quest to discover new talent during the currently running Mtl. Fringe Festival , i wandered into Théâtre La Comédie de Montréal, drawn in by the words “musical,” “Star Wars,” and let’s be honest, “Cônes.”

What I experienced was an intergalactic fever dream covered in maple syrup and wrapped in a traffic vest.

Welcome to Star Wârs d’icitte: La guerre des cônes !

This isn’t your average sci-fi spoof. Oh no. This is the Fringe Festival’s prized Star Wars parody, back with a proudly Québécois twist and a musical soul that will lodge itself in your head faster than you can say “Darth Védeure.

We’re talking podracing on the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit. ( A perfect fit for F1 season ) , we’re talking Jedi training with a thick Montréal accent. We’re talking an actual war over traffic cones. I laughed so hard I nearly Force-choked on my own laughter.

The music, the writing? As absurd as a Wookiee doing karaoke in a “dépanneur“.

The energy of the 12 person cast ? Off the charts. The sand? Yes – there’s sand. And yes, Anakin still hates it with a passion ( It gets into odd places at times you see…).

Light sabers, fire, sand and …Celine Dion ?

This show is the prequel to their previous hit, Un Sith et son péché, so if you’ve seen that one, you already know what level of genius-debauchery we’re dealing with. And if you haven’t, no worries—La guerre des cônes stands tall on its own… in a slightly off-balance, hilariously lopsided way.

Honestly, if you’re at the Fringe and you don’t see this, you’re missing out on the kind of magic that only exists when Star Wars, musical theatre, and Quebec culture collide in a glorious, glorious mess.

Catch it while you can. Bring a friend. Bring your inner nerd. Leave your Jedi code at the door.

May the Farce be with you.

Why not support the production by taking home a BANANAKIN t-shirt !

The show is presented by Les Productions de l’Épopée and is running in French with a Quebecois accent and lasts approximately 2 hours .
