Fort Ticonderoga holds reception for 250th Anniversary of the Northern Department

In Ticonderoga, Fort Ticonderoga celebrates the history of the Northern Department, and looks into its future.

During the revolutionary war, the Northern Department was established as a military department of the Continental Army tasked with administering most of northern New York state and the surrounding region.

Today, the Northern Department takes on a different form. Connecting partners in New York, Vermont, and Canada, today’s Northern Department links revolutionary historic sites, museums, and parks to introduce new generations to the history of the region.

The Northern Department plans to bring more attention to the towns and businesses too, as historical and cultural tourism plays a key part in the regional economy.

The reception also included the debut screening of a film short created to highlight the past and future of the Northern Department.
