The “Curbside at Harborside” concert-series features a bluegrass trio Saturday, August 15.
Get ready for a high energy show! Beartracks play original music, traditional bluegrass and classic country covers with a bluegrass twist.
Beartracks began as a trio in 2004. Legendary Dobro player Junior Barber convinced his cousins, Tom Venne and Julie Venne-Hogan, to make the switch from playing classic country music in clubs to playing bluegrass. They have performed at numerous festivals in the U.S. from the Northeast to Colorado and in Canada, from Calgary to PEI.
With Junior retiring in 2012, Julie and Tom now form the core of Beatracks, bringing in accomplished musicians to round out their sound. Vermont fiddle player Harry Ralph has been with them for 6 years, but won’t make this show due to the Covid 19 restrictions. Terry Eamer, a banjo player from Peru, NY will be joining them in Plattsburgh.
Each Saturday evening through early September, musicians are performing on the stage of the city’s portable bandshell, stationed in the parking lot near Dock Street, close to the Plattsburgh City Marina.
Tickets are available (cash only) on the evening of each performance at the Harborside Lot entrance. Vehicles will be parked first-come, first-served by the volunteer parking attendants on site. All attendees must bring with them a face mask to wear whenever they exit their vehicles. No alcohol and no pets will be allowed on site. Refreshments will be available for sale before and during the concerts.
It was a family trip to a drive-in movie theatre in Colchester, Vermont, that inspired Plattsburgh native Benjamin Pomerance to send an email to Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read asking about introducing a similar concept for concerts to bring live music back to the area.
A grassroots community effort arose from there, with Mayor Read and Pomerance joining forces with area arts leaders such as Artistry Community Theatre President Derrick A. Hopkins, Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz Producer Laura Carbone, and audio engineer Russell Feher to bring this idea to fruition.
