Focus on the Minimum Wage Hike in Mountain Lake PBS Community Forum

Plattsburgh, NY – 01/27/2016 – In his State of the State address last week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo repeated his vow to phase in a $15 an hour minimum wage across the state by 2021.ÿ Lawmakers voted in 2013 to increase New York’s minimum wage to $9 dollars an hour by the end of 2015 and now the governor?s proposal would raise the minimum wage dramatically higher ? to $15 over the next 5-years. Business groups in the state adamantly oppose Coumo’s proposal, warning that raising the minimum wage by such a large amount will hurt the upstate economy and small businesses still struggling to recover from the recession.

Mountain Lake PBS invites the community to the Mountain Lake PBS studio in Plattsburgh for a public forum on Monday, February 1 at 6pm, to discuss the pros and cons of raising the minimum. The public is invited ask questions and submit comments either in the live studio audience, or by participating and watching the live stream online. Questions and comments can be submitted in advance at mountainlake.org/wage.

Thom Hallock, host of the award-winning Mountain Lake Journal, will moderate the panel of workers, business owners, and economists in a thoughtful discussion. The 60-minute forum will air as a special edition of Mountain Lake Journal on Friday, February 5th at 8pm.

The forum is free to attend, and open to the public. To attend, please email mlpbs@mountainlake.org.
