Violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaya in Concert and the Pro Musica series ….
Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending the concert of Moldavian born violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaya who, along with Russian pianist Polina Leschenko, gave a moving performance of a few masterpieces of 21st century chamber music repertoire, at Salle Pierre Mercure. Kopatchinskaya recently was awarded a Grammy for her recent album: The Death and the Maiden, recorded with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
Bare footed and dressed rather androgynously in a black and white fitted suit, Kopatchinskaya made strong eye contact with her audience as she made the strings of the 1834 Giovanni Francesco Pressenda violin weep, cry out and tremble under rather furious bow movements, with repertoire that included Violin Sonatas by B. Bartok, F.Poulenc and G. Enesco and the ever fiery Gypsy Tzigane by Maurice Ravel.

Kopatchinskaya’s unique performance style brought the audience on an emotional journey with each piece bringing a different psychological state to the table.
The concert was organized by the Pro Musica Society that regularly promotes chamber music on the island of Montreal. The organization has enriched the Montreal music scene for the past 70 years by presenting a wide repertoire of concerts with international performers.

The currently 24 year old Maksim has already made his mark in the techno world by remixing for Dubfire in 2017 a track called “Rabid” that was released on the label SCI+TEC. He also collaborated with Oliver Huntemann on a remix that was released on a track called “Poltergeist”.

“This stunning new creation, presented under the immersive dome theatre, offers a temporary escape from gravity, reminding us that the pull of the earth, and our finality, is inescapable. It evokes curiosity and a sense of freedom by blurring or usual understanding of space and of our sensual relationships we have with it.”
… States director Dana Gingras of her latest work which features an original text by Marie Brassard, 3D animation and direction by Josh Sherrett (The Workshop) and original sounds and score by Roger Tellier Craig.
The visuals of the film are very agitated and repetitive by portraying various contorting bodies of thousands of men and women in perpetual freefall; thus showcasing the body movements of talented trampoline artist Olivier Lemieux, dancer Esther Rousseau-Morin and performer choreographer Sovann Rochon-Prom Tep.
As you lay down flat on one of the giant bean sacs scattered around the floor of the satosphere, get ready to open you mind and let yourself soak in the sound and visuals that will evoke feelings of wonder, pleasure and even exhilaration through a sense of abandon.

The festival Vues D’Afrique has just kicked off its 35th edition in Montreal showcasing award winning films in several screening venues across the city. Come and celebrate African and Creole culture through the beauty of cinema from the 5th to the 14th of April 2019.
The opening film “Mercy of the Jungle” presented at the Imperial Cinema with the presence of the director and several personalities of the Montreal African community, gave a realistic and devastating depiction of the ravages of the Rwandan genocide, told through the journey of two soldiers, left behind by their comrades and forced to face the dangers of the jungle that engulfs them.
A series of films, workshops, music, comedy and other related activities are planned throughout the week along with several free admission events on offer.
