Danse Danse - YouTube

Montreal based company Danse Danse is an associate presenter at Montreal’s Place des Arts. They invite you to discover the best of contemporary dance from here and abroad in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles.

Since its foundation in 1998, Danse Danse has offered a diversified program, rooted in the 21st century, of new creations and landmark works from the contemporary repertoire.

Danse Danse

From December 1st to the 4th , Montreal based company Danse Danse is proud to present an amazing triple bill by Ballet BC:

  • GARDEN by Medhi Walerski
  • The Statement by Crystal Pite
  • Bedroom Folk by Sharon Eyal, Gai Behar

For their third appearance at Danse Danse, Ballet BC will bring together three leading choreographers with distinctive signatures: Sharon Eyal, Crystal Pite and Medhi Walerski.

Since Medhi Walerski took over as artistic director in 2020, Ballet BC has continued to build on its momentum. Always exemplary of the best in dance, this Vancouver-based company with its 13 top-level dancers has gone from strength to strength.

Sharon Eyal offers Bedroom Folk, one of Ballet BC’s most successful touring productions. This spectacular piece is an intense and meticulously synchronized work set to Ori Lichtik’s repetitive electronic pulses.

The Statement, a delicious dialogue between speech and movement, is pure Crystal Pite, an uplifting and inextricable imbroglio where four dancers gather around a large table to reveal power relationships and games.

And finally, Medhi Walerski’s GARDEN, a bouquet of music and dance inspired by Camille Saint-Saëns’ Quintet in A minor, Op. 14, is a wonderful piece that conveys a gentle melancholy.

TANGENTE : What will Come – December 2nd -5th

The first organization to specialize in dance presentation in Québec, Tangente (est. 1980) champions emerging choreographers and offers contemporary dance programming from September to May.

Each show is a unique experience that opens onto the experimental and the interdisciplinary.

Their two intimate and transformable theatre spaces in ÉDIFICE WILDER – Espace danse in the heart of Quartier des spectacles allow the company to ensure that the avant-garde and the alternative scene have a foothold in downtown Montréal.

To end its Fall 2021 season on a beautiful note, Tangente presents What Will Come, the most recent creation by choreographers and performers Julia B. Laperrière and Sébastien Provencher, from December 2 to 5.

Berlin-based composer Bráulio Bandeira (aka Deepneue) will be in town to perform the music for the show live.

In a sanitized universe, two bodies are born from cubes: flesh rubs against edges, heat against cold, acceleration against immobility. Cautiously and awkwardly, they discover an environment that escapes them, but whose laws they try to understand just as it is crumbling under their feet.

Gradually, accidents multiply and unpredictability takes over. Boxes pile up in this allegory about the obsession with categorization in an attempt to grasp a world that is leaning towards chaos. In this absurd dialogue between live music, lighting, scenography, and movement, What Will Come is as much a question as it is a hypothesis.

Choreographers and performers: Julia B. Laperrière, Sébastien Provencher / Composer and musician: Bráulio Bandeira / Scenographer: Hannah Dougherty / Lighting designer: Nicola Dubois / Dramaturgical assistant: Lynda Rahal / Artistic advisors: Christine Charles, Helen Simard / Costume designer: Tricia Crivellaro / Sound advisor: Michel F Côté.
