Parking Needs Assessment Results: Public Session
October 25, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Oct 18, 2017 – In August 2017, the City of Plattsburgh and a number of residents and businesses met with Carl Walker, Inc. to begin a parking needs assessment and study in preparation of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) redevelopment.
The consultants have spent the last several weeks going through survey data, notes from public and stakeholder meetings along with interviews with City officials and staff, and team members from Carl Walker, Inc. They will be back in Plattsburgh to present initial data and suggestions for parking solutions in the City. The initial findings will be presented at the next public meeting, to be held on Wednesday, Oct 25th, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Plattsburgh Public Library. This is a chance for the public and stakeholders to discuss potential ideas to inform the decision making as the City works towards a parking solution.
Mayor Colin Read is encouraging interested residents and businesses to come and exchange ideas. “There are few things for which people have stronger feelings than downtown parking. The State has determined that we do something in the Durkee Street block that will spur economic development. Before we do that, we have to figure out how to provide sufficient alternate spaces downtown to accommodate existing needs and future growth. We need your ideas,” commented Mayor Read.
Director of Community Development, Paul DeDominicas, said, “This is an important next step in the process to find a parking solution that works for the City. We will be able to look at the data to explore some real ideas and understand the consequences of implementing different options.“
All of the information will be made available to the public via the City’s website: http://www.cityofplattsburgh.com/192/Community-Development. The project is funded through a grant from Empire State Development.
