Broadway classics take center stage at Plattsburgh’s Harborside venue on August 14, when three gifted professional artists who now call the North Country their home present a night of musical theatre treasures, ranging from beloved showstoppers of yesteryear to more recent Broadway hits.
Husband-and-wife duo Bill and Brenda Chase McColgan, singing sensations whose talents have been widely praised in professional venues in Boston and across the Northeast, will join with pianist Dr. Rose Chancler, the international recording artist who leads the Piano By Nature series in Elizabethtown, to take audiences on a musical journey across many of their favorite musical theatre roles — as well as some of the characters that are on their “bucket list” for future musical theatre portrayals.
Bill McColgan’s theatrical dossier includes more than 300 professional performances in Forever Plaid, as well as the title role in Sweeney Todd, Jud Fry in Oklahoma!, Bill Snibsen in Me & My Girl, Cliff in Cabaret, and the Bishop in Les Miserables.
Brenda Chase McColgan, a longtime member of the celebrated Boston-area troupe Showstoppers, Inc., Laurie in Oklahoma, Glinda in The Wizard of Oz, Gladys in The Pajama Game, the Mistress in Evita, the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, and an extended run of the popular musical comedy I Do, I Do, as well as the Boston-area premiere of Are We There Yet?
Since moving to the North Country, where Bill serves as President & CEO of Mountain Lake PBS and Brenda works as a one-on-one special education aide, both McColgans have become highly respected members of this region’s theatrical community. Most recently, both of them appeared in Artistry Community Theatre’s production of Into The Woods, with Bill portraying the Baker and Brenda featured as the Witch.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m. for parking at the Harborside Stage (2 Dock Street, behind the D&H Railroad Station and adjacent to the City of Plattsburgh Marina), with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per carload (not per person), with all ticket sale proceeds going to the artists.
Attendees have the option of bringing lawn chairs or blankets and listening to the music outside of their car, or remaining in their vehicle to hear the music broadcast over their car radio. Individuals who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 do not need to wear face masks outside of their vehicles. Audience members are respectfully requested to refrain from bringing alcohol or pets (service animals are welcome) into the Harborside Lot.
