Creeping, Crawling, Fluttering… Bugs Are Everywhere!

Look around and you’ll find bugs everywhere! From hot and humid rain forest habitats to snowy mountain ranges and just about everywhere in between, it turns out there’s an estimated 10 quintillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000) bugs on earth. These creepy, crawly critters actually make up as much as 80 percent of the species on our planet! And they’re older than dinosaurs. That’s right, bugs have been around for roughly 350 million years. Compare that to humans: we’ve only been around for 300,000 years.

Bugs are amazing. They pollinate our crops, help monitor water quality, produce ingenious materials humans use like silk and honey, and some can even be cooked up as tasty, nutritious snacks! Ant, beetle, stick bug or butterfly, every bug has its own unique traits and habits.

Keep scrolling to learn about different kinds of insects, scientists who study them, and the impact they have on the environment with the videos, games and activities below.
