As many as 500,000 demonstrators joined climate activist Greta Thunberg for the largest protest in Montreal’s history. The teenager from Sweden has inspired millions worldwide to demand action on climate change, including dozens of students from Northern New York who took part in one of the climate strikes held in hundreds of cities across the U.S. on September 20th.
Students from Beekmantown and Plattsburgh High Schools marched to the SUNY Plattsburgh campus to meet up with protesters from the college and community demanding political leaders do more to curb global warming. Students from Plattsburgh High’s Green Team, inspired by Greta Thunberg, are credited with helping to convince the City to become a Climate Smart Community in New York State. Watch our coverage of the Green Team’s efforts from Earth Week in April.
