Authentic Cantonese cuisine in the heart of Chinatown ,
Chez Maxim Oriental is a new Chinese restaurant conveniently situated in the heart of Chinatown. From the main road as you walk up St Laurent Street, you can see the restaurant’s sign on the wall as well as numerous photos of the dishes on offer.
As the restaurant is situated over two levels, you will have to ascend the marble staircase to find a spotlessly clean oasis. From delicious, authentic Cantonese food, a clean and bright atmosphere to impeccable service, what’s not to like?
Maxim Oriental offers a pleasant gastronomic experience for those seeking a clean and affordable Chinese restaurant. In a relaxed and friendly environment you’ll find cuisine that is generous in proportion and not overly oily or saturated in fat. Some of their specialty dishes include the traditional Pekin duck and delectable morsel selections of tasty Dim Sum !
During my visit, I had the pleasure of tasting their signature set dinner for 2: the entree spring rolls were fresh and flavorful and the steamed shrimp wonton soup was piping hot with dumplings that were not too pasty. The General Tao chicken, (the number one Canadian fan favorite) was very crunchy and not overly salty and went well with the sliced marinated beef served on a hefty bed of greens with a bowl of rice.
The portions were quite generous and the food was prepared with great care and neatly presented. Prices are reasonable, with a range of $15 to $20 per person for a complete meal.
The restaurant’s floor space is surprisingly very spacious and some might like the white decor as well as the option of reserving the restaurant’s second floor for special occasions and banquets. On busy evenings, there is usually only a 10 minute waiting time.
If you arrive with a large party, my suggestion is that upon arrival, you may chat with the friendly waiters and staff to get their suggestions for specialty dishes and they will help you make a choice for your table for an enjoyable gastronomic experience.
Definitely a “must-visit” restaurant during your next stop in Montreal Chinatown.
