The pandemic has dramatically changed this year’s Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake, New York. Volunteers still built the traditional Ice Palace that is always the centerpiece of the festival, although this year’s castle was smaller, and was closed off to the public. Many of the events normally held during the two-week Carnival were cancelled this year, including the coronation, parade, and closing fireworks show.
