The Lyric Theatre Singers once again wrapped Montreal in a blanket of music and goodwill with their enchanting presentation of Candlelight Christmas 2025, held December 4th to 7th at Concordia University’s historic Loyola Chapel.
Under the inspired leadership of Artistic and Musical Director Bob Bachelor, this cherished annual tradition returned with a radiant glow , offering audiences the perfect way to step into the magic of the festive season.

From the moment audience members entered the softly lit chapel at Loyola Campus, the atmosphere shimmered with that unmistakable holiday warmth, the kind that evokes memories of snow-dusted evenings, candlelit windows, and heartfelt gatherings.
The Lyric Theatre Singers brought that feeling to life with remarkable artistry, filling the chapel with rich harmonies and radiant musical storytelling that felt like a gift unwrapped in real time.

For over 35 years, this ensemble has created a holiday sanctuary where music becomes a balm for the spirit, and this year’s edition continued that legacy with an exceptional program .
The program, crafted with Bachelor’s signature blend of sophistication and joy, unfolded like a musical advent calendar: Contemporary arrangements by Andy Beck and Mac Huff ( eg: Grinch! , A Hand for Mrs. Claus) , sparkled with freshness, while the beautiful solo selection piece ( Mary Did You Know? ) sang with versatility and grace by soprano Katherine Fournier added emotional depth to the whole performance.
A traditional South African carol ( Sizalewe Indodana ) celebrated the strength of community song with lined-up choristers inviting the audience to clap along to the beat, and a playful, expertly delivered and very original rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas as the show’s Grand Finale, showcased both the singers’ precision and their delightful sense of fun !

The Singers’ vocal brilliance was beautifully complemented by a team of gifted musicians: Robin Chemtov on piano, Tim Malloch on flute, Sheila Hannigan on cello, Kyra Charlton on harp, and Guillaume Pilote on percussion. Together, they elevated the chapel’s natural acoustics into something truly harmonious, as if the music itself was gently stirring the holiday spirit in every corner of the room.
Bob Bachelor’s reflection on the concert’s purpose resonated deeply with audiences: he hoped the evening would offer “a few hours of warmth and joy” amid the noise of the world. That hope was fulfilled many times over with a wonderful concert that was both comforting and uplifting.

With Candlelight Christmas 2025, the Lyric Theatre Singers once again delivered a celebration of harmony, hope, and the timeless spirit of the holidays. Anyone who attended left with hearts a little fuller, spirits a little brighter, and melodies that seemed to linger like snowflakes dancing in winter light.
