Canadian Federal Election Results

Canadians headed to the polls this week and the Liberal Party pulled off a stunning victory that’ll keep Mark Carney as prime minister. The Conservatives had been leading in the polls for months until President Trump took aim at Canada with a trade war, tariffs, and threats to annex Canada and make it the 51st State, which united Canadians and helped the Liberals hold onto power.

The Trump factor was on the minds of many voters in the village of Hemmingford, Quebec just a few miles north of the border. Voters just a few months ago seemed poised to give the Conservative Party and Pierre Poilievre a chance to lead after nearly 10 years of Liberal Party government. Instead, they decided to give Carney a full four-year mandate to lead the nation, although the Liberals fell just short of winning an outright majority & will have to once again rely on minority parties to pass legislation.

Carney’s office says he spoke with President Trump and the two plan to meet in the near future. Carney has said he hopes to get to work immediately on negotiating a new trade deal many hope will end the tariffs the U-S has slapped on many Canadian goods crossing the border.
