The devastating floods that struck communities in Vermont and some towns in the Adirondacks are leading to significant cleanup and rebuilding efforts. New York Governor Kathy Hochul requested a major disaster declaration from President Biden for severely affected counties and communities. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg toured Vermont to assess the damage firsthand and stressed the need for resilient infrastructure in the face of climate change. Several New York communities, including Long Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Indian Lake, and the Town of Schroon, also faced severe flooding and damage.
