Burn Baby Burn lights up Montreal !

Burn Baby Burn concluded its run this weekend at Théâtre Maisonneuve after delivering a resonant and visually arresting experience that reaffirmed Guillaume Côté’s place among the most compelling choreographers of his generation.

Presented by Danse Danse, the work captivated audiences with its urgent reflection on climate change and its evocative portrayal of fire as both a creative force and a symbol of destruction.

As an organization dedicated to showcasing the finest in contemporary dance, Danse Danse remains committed to making the art form accessible while fostering dynamic encounters between artists and audiences.

The presentation of Burn Baby Burn demonstrated this mission with clarity through its blend of artistic excellence, emotional intensity and thematic relevance. Attendees could also discuss post-performance with the choreographer and dancers after select performances.

Drawing from contrasting energies, the piece moved between large scale ensemble sequences and intimate solos that explored human vulnerability.

Guillaume Côté’s choreography created intense connections among the dancers, enriched by their diverse backgrounds that ranged from classical ballet to contemporary, urban and postmodern influences. This interplay of styles resulted in a production that felt immediate, modern and deeply attuned to the concerns of our time.

Amos Ben Tal’s original score provided a powerful framework for the movement, balancing rhythmic momentum with contemplative soundscapes that heightened the emotional impact of the performance.

With this production, Côté Danse once again demonstrated its growing influence on the Canadian dance landscape and its dedication to innovative, multidisciplinary artistic creation.

Although Burn Baby Burn’s run in Montreal has now concluded, Danse Danse invites audiences to continue discovering bold and inspiring works.

The next presentation will feature Compagnie Hervé Koubi with Sol Invictus from January 13 to January 17 in 2026. This upcoming event promises another captivating encounter with a visionary choreographer whose work blends physical power, poetic expression and a profound sense of human connection.
