For next week’s Watch & Wonder Highlight, we’re featuring the first episode of Becoming Frida Kahlo. After watching, dive deeper with resources about other revolutionary and inspirational women artists like Lynda Benglis, Kara Walker, and the Guerrilla Girls on PBS LearningMedia.
Explore the life of celebrated artist Frida Kahlo in a three-part docuseries. See the major personal and political events of her life, including her stormy and devoted relationship with artist Diego Rivera, whom she married not once but twice. In The Making and Breaking, we follow Kahlo’s early life as she discovers her genius for painting following a tragic, life-changing accident, leading her to encounter world-famous muralist Diego Rivera.

Grades 9-12
In this episode, we talk about a group of supremely awesome and unapologetic artists who take risks, question art-world practices, and also happen to be women. We’re calling them “Fierce Women of Art.” These are truly inspirational artists who make a wide range of work, and today we’re going to single-out and celebrate five of them: the Guerrilla Girls, Corita Kent, Lynda Benglis, Xiao Lu, and Kara Walker.
