The Town of Plattsburgh cut the ribbon a couple of weeks ago on the completion of the first phase or the Town’s new memorial dedicated to Veterans, called the Battlefield Memorial Gateway on the shore of Lake Champlain close to Crab & Valcour Islands. The first phase includes a Purple Heart Trail, a paved path connects to the Terry Gordon Bike Path nearby. The Town and Clinton County American Legion plan to begin work in early 2024 on adding a memorial, amphitheater and children’s play area in time for the upcoming national celebration of America’s 250th birthday in 2026. And then eventually, the Town hopes to add new piers and docks to offer boat rides to Crab & Valcour Islands for tours of some of the military memorials there.
