You may have enjoyed the oratorio Messiah, with its famous “Halleluiah chorus” by George Frideric Handel, but you’ve likely never heard it the way it will be played in Plattsburgh this month, on period instruments! Internationally acclaimed music director Eric Milnes will lead L’Harmonie des Saisons, the Juno Award-winning period instrument ensemble from Quebec. The concert will include vocalists from the music organization Burlington Baroque.
With an orchestra comprised of Baroque Era instruments, and a performance guided by Milnes’s extensive research into Handel’s original manuscripts of Messiah, this concert presents an extremely rare opportunity to hear the oratorio in the closest possible manner to the work’s premiere in 1742.

“The profound beauty of this masterpiece, combined with the exceptional talent of our performers, promises an experience that will resonate in hearts and minds long after the final note has been sung,” said Milnes, who has more than 60 album releases to his credit, and whose performance credits as a conductor and a keyboard artist include acclaimed appearances at Carnegie Hall and the Trinity Consort, and recent tours of Japan, China, Bolivia, and Chile.
Tickets for this special concert are on sale now on the Burlington Baroque website, available at the price of $30 thanks to the generous sponsorship of many North Country businesses, arts organizations, and individual donors. Additionally, $50 prestige tickets are available for attendees wishing to secure a guaranteed seat in the first three rows of the church, along with a special invitation to a post-concert meet-the-artists reception.
