We talk in-depth with North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones about the border closure being extended, the rise in the number of covid cases and push to get more people vaccinated, and how New York’s new Governor is doing in her first month on the job. We interviewed Assemblyman Jones before Thursday’s news that New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker is resigning. Zucker has come under fire for under-reporting the number of COVID-related deaths in nursing homes across New York.
Assemblyman Jones released a statement after Zucker’s announcement:
“Dr. Howard Zucker’s resignation will help preserve the public’s confidence in the Department of Health. There are serious questions that need to be answered regarding the commissioner’s involvement in pending investigations of nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Dr. Zucker’s resignation will allow the Department of Health to focus purely on the State’s COVID-19 response and not get distracted by controversies that occurred during former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s leadership.”
