7 years after the State gave the City of Plattsburgh $10-million-dollars to invest in economic development projects, including what is still the centerpiece of the DRI, a 100 unit housing & retail development in the heart of the downtown, the Durkee Street project is facing another hurdle this week after the New York Appellate Court struck down the City’s current plan to develop the site. But the mayor says that doesn’t mean plans for the downtown apartment project are dead. He says Plattsburgh City leaders and Prime Development would meet this week to discuss a new way forward on the project after the court ruled its soil management plan was insufficient. The Plattsburgh Citizens Coalition brought forward the original lawsuit a few years ago, the group’s vice president, Kevin Farrington, says the group is hopeful that last week’s ruling will result in a better plan. Mayor Chris Rosenquest says the city needed to sit down with Empire State Development and Prime Development to decide what to do next and if Prime is still interested in moving ahead with the project. For now, the Mayor says the city is determined to bring more housing to the downtown.
