Acclaimed Adirondack Troubadour Returns To Plattsburgh

Dan Berggren, the Adirondack folk-singing legend whose music was praised by Pete Seeger and acclaimed at venues from Central Africa to Eastern Europe to his native region in New York, returns to Plattsburgh’s Harborside Stage on August 28 for a solo performance in collaboration with the community’s Palmer Street Coffeehouse that will range from his time-honored classics to his newest original works.

Born in Brooklyn, Berggren’s family moved to Olmstedville when he was 12 years old, living on the same land that his great-great grandfather had farmed. After leaving New York to serve in the Army, Berggren returned to the Adirondacks to work as a surveyor. During this time, he was introduced to the Adirondack folk music treasure trove of Marjorie Lansing Porter, and decided to devote his music-making to telling musical stories of the Adirondack Park that addresses universal themes.

Since then, Berggren has gone on to a remarkable musical career as a troubadour of these mountains, both as a collaborative artist and in solo performances. His legacy includes decades of performances at Saratoga’s beloved Caffe Lena, the same venue that has hosted the likes of Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, and Peter Yarrow, often playing to capacity crowds. His lyrical, thought-provoking music, and his historical and environmental stewardship and action, have garnered many awards.

Gates open for parking at the Harborside Lot (2 Dock Street in Plattsburgh, adjacent to the City of Plattsburgh Marina and behind the D&H Railroad Station) at 6:30 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per carload (not per person), with all proceeds going to the artists.

Audience members are welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket and sit outside of their car, or remain inside their vehicle and listen to the music broadcast directly from the stage over their car radio. Anyone who is fully vaccinated for COVID-19 does not have to wear a face mask. Attendees are respectfully requested not to bring alcohol or pets (service animals are welcome) onto the premises.

Tremendous thanks go out to the North Country Co-op and to RotoRooter for their generous sponsorship of this concert.
