Yesterday evening, the Orchestre Classique de Montréal (OCM) offered a delightful musical experience at Salle Pierre Mercure, with it’s very joyful concert “Festa Italiana” , featuring the outstanding Quebec tenor Marc Hervieux and the talented conductor Geneviève Leclair.
Famous for his charisma and powerful voice, music enthusiasts were transported throughout Italy through Marc Hervieux’s personal stories, hilarious anecdotes and interpretations of Neapolitan and Sicilian classics with new arrangements for orchestra by Eric Senécal, that brought to life the timeless beauty and passion of Italy’s music.
The repertoire included popular songs such as Volare, Funiculì, Funiculà, Marechiare, and Torna a Surriento, among other musical treasures that made the crowd sing and clap in quasi-perfect tandem with the orchestra ( The rhythmic precision was something that Hervieux was happy to point out !)
The program also included popular songs and renowned orchestral overtures such as the overture from The Barber of Seville and the renowned Intermezzo from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana, that captivated the heart and full attention of the audience
In addition, the MCO unveiled the programming of its 84th season with Jacques Lacombe, the new artistic director and principal conductor, adding to the excitement of the event.
