Next Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., the Orchestre classique de Montréal (OCM) invites audiences to Montreal’s La Maison Symphonique for the opening concert of its highly anticipated 86th season.
This stirring program, presented in the week of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, celebrates the voices, artistry, and resilience of Indigenous musicians and creators.

The stage will shine with the presence of three exceptional soloists: Innu soprano Élisabeth St-Gelais, Mohawk violinist Tara-Louise Montour, and Cree cellist Cris Derksen. Together with the OCM and under the inspired direction of its new music director Andrei Feher, they will bring to life a repertoire that bridges traditions, cultures, and generations.

Highlights of the evening include Mozart’s monumental Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”, enhanced by captivating visual projections from Oneida artist Alanah Jewell Morningstar, and the Québec premiere of Cris Derksen’s Spider Being. The program will also feature songs by Tomson Highway from his celebrated musical The Post Mistress and Malcolm Forsyth’s violin concerto Trickster Coyote, Lightning Elk, written especially for Montour.
Adding another heartfelt layer, students from the El Sistema Kanawahke program at Kateri School, under the guidance of Penny Berg-Patton, will join in, making this event a true intergenerational gathering of talent.
With a duration of approximately 128 minutes including a 20-minute intermission, the concert promises to be an unforgettable journey that is equal parts reflection, celebration, and inspiration.
