Casino du Lac Leamy in Gatineau

A High-Energy Escape to Gatineau: Casino Lights, Bistro Bites & Symphonic Metal Magic !

It doesn’t take much to trade the everyday for something electric … especially when you’re just a short drive away from either Montreal or Ottawa.

That’s exactly how my spontaneous day trip to Gatineau began, fueled by curiosity, good company, and the promise of an unforgettable night filled with good eats, luck and music at the Casino du Lac-Leamy !

Nestled along the shimmering shores of Leamy Lake, the casino complex is a destination in itself. The adjoining Hilton Lac-Leamy offers sleek, modern comfort with panoramic views, and the gaming floor is nothing short of exhilarating for thrill seekers, featuring over 1,800 slot machines and more than 60 gaming tables.

A fun fact? The casino is one of the largest in Canada, drawing visitors year-round with its vibrant energy and entertainment lineup in their on-site Cabaret.

A Bistro Stop Before the Show

Steak, Salad and Shrimp: the perfect meal before showtime !

Before heading to the evening’s main event, we made a strategic and delicious stop at BANCO Bistro, conveniently located just steps from the theatre. The atmosphere was warm and convivial, the kind of place where conversation flows as easily as the wine.

Comfort bistro food served at Banco

The menu celebrates simple, satisfying bistro classics done right. We indulged in a rich, succulent brie burger as well as a perfectly cooked steak frite and fried shrimp that hit all the right notes.

For those seeking a purely ‘Quebecois’ option , try their generous serving of poutine: crispy fries, savory gravy, and squeaky cheese curds in perfect harmony.

It was the ideal prelude to an evening of music and it was equally wonderful knowing that onsite parking was free and the cabaret was just a five minutes walk from the restaurant.

When Metal Meets Symphony

Then came the moment we’d been waiting for: the show at the Cabaret of the casino.

ANESTHESIA – Symphonic Homage to Metallica delivered exactly what its name promised: thunderous ENERGY!

Right from the start, the atmosphere was electric. The 4 manned band, AnesthesiA took the stage alongside the powerful Orchestre FILMharmonique, under the direction of Olivier Hébert.

What followed was a well coordinated fusion of raw metal energy and sweeping orchestral grandeur.

Classic tracks spanning Metallica’s golden era: from The Unforgiven, Sandman to Seek & Destroy, all were re-imagined with cinematic depth and intensity. The guitars roared, the strings soared, and the crowd was completely immersed.

The 1h45 immersive performance was a full-scale musical experience with themed visuals, well coordinated lights and loud beats that bridged genres and generations.

There’s something undeniably thrilling about hearing metal anthems elevated by a live symphony orchestra, their presence added emotion, drama, and a sense of scale that’s simply unforgettable.

A Night to Remember, Just Around the Corner

As we stepped out into the cool Gatineau night, still buzzing from the performance, it was hard to believe that such a rich escape was so close to home.

Between the lively casino atmosphere, the comforting flavors of BANCO Bistro, and the sheer spectacle of the concert, this was a great mini getaway packed with energy, flavor, and sound.

If you’re looking to break routine without going far, Gatineau might just be your next perfect detour.

Coming Up: More Epic Nights Ahead

If this night left us wanting more (and it absolutely did), the good news is that there’s plenty on the horizon.

What makes this production even more exciting is its continued success and growing demand.

After multiple sold-out runs from 2022 through 2025, AnesthesiA is back on tour in 2026 with major stops that included Montreal, Gatineau, and an upcoming summer performance next July 11, 2026, at the Théâtre Gilles-Vigneault in Saint-Jérôme.

It’s not just a one-night thrill, it’s a full-fledged touring phenomenon that keeps drawing crowds across Quebec.

As for the Orchestre FILMharmonique , the orchestra is preparing something just as spectacular, but in a completely different galaxy.
