The Center for the Study of Canada at SUNY Plattsburgh has for almost 20-years hosted its annual Distinguished Quebec Address, every spring, that features scholars, journalists, and business or government leaders who talk about politics or issues important to Quebec and Northern New York. For a second year, this year’s address was virtual, featuring Dr. Daniel Beland, who is the Director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada and the Quebec Studies Program at McGill University. Dr. Beland was asked about how the people of Quebec have handled several phases of curfews & other restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Beland also talked the recent protests and blockades over COVID mandates that turned into a 3-week occupation around Parliament Hill in Ottawa, as well as Quebec’s upcoming provincial elections in October.
