Party all night at Nuit Blanche and Celebrate Black Excellent at Gala Dynastie

This Saturday February 29th 2020, welcomes not only another leap year, but also marks the end of Black History Month and rings in the joyful all night celebrations held during Montreal’s 17th edition of Nuit Blanche.

Nuit Blanche: the Most Awaited night of the Year

Hosted by Montreal en Lumieres, this annual night-time arts festival will offer in 2020 over 200, mostly free cultural activities ranging from poetry, visual arts, dance, music, comedy, film, games and more taking place in the city’s numerous museums, private and public art galleries, and other cultural institutions open and free of charge to all.

To facilitate access to these activities, the Montreal Metro and STM busses will be running all night long to allow participants to explore the city as it turns into a de facto art gallery, providing space for art installations, performances, themed social gatherings, and other activities.

Some event highlights include:

1. Enjoy free outdoor activities at Place des Festival site and Dance the night away at the Phi Center!

Don your snow pants and parka and brave the cold atop the lighted Ferris wheel. Take a moment to revisit childhood as you go down the slide at the main festival site at the Quartier des Spectacles and enjoy live artistic / acrobatic performances by the Dynamo troupe from 7:30 p.m.

Finish the night by dancing up a storm to the lively beats of onsite DJ sets (including Montrealer CastNowski).

DJs will also be taking over the Phi Centre for free concerts as of 9 p.m.

Montreal-based DJ , Sies Marlan, from the music project of Anne Bertrand will be playing a hypnotic house set at 10:30 pm and Ian Campeau, one of the pioneers of Indigenous electronic music genre Electric Powwow, or Powwow-Step and the co-founders and former member of the Juno Award-winning band A Tribe Called Red  is set to play tonight at 12:30 am .

2. Get artsy at the MAC and Fine Arts Museum

Both of Montreal’s dedicated art museums are inviting both the young and old to get in touch with their creative side by participating in a variety of craft-related workshops.

At the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC), On the program: three exhibitions and an art workshop where you can paint a northern landscape inspired by the work Arctic Night, 1984, by Kathleen Margaret Graham.

At the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, uncover the secrets of Egypt by visiting the Egyptian mummies exhibition at half price admission ($12).  Try your hand at writing hieroglyphs on scrolls and join the collective mural of recycled papyrus and enjoy a musical prestation inspired by Egyptian culture.

Workshops begin at 6 p.m., music at 8 p.m.

Museums close at 2am .

3. Montreal’s Latest Foodie Hub: Le Central offers gastronomic platters for 5$ and 10$

To Celebrate Nuit Blanche, and as part of La Grande Bouffe, (which also took place last Feb 22nd) , the 25 restaurateurs from the gourmet hall of Place-des-Arts are inviting the public to feast with them, with a menu offered at a reduced price !

You can therefore, exceptionally, taste a variety of dishes concocted specially for this gastronomic event, for the modest amounts of $ 5 and $ 10 each platter.

Gala Dynastie

This Sunday, to mark the end of Black history month, the 4^th edition of Gala Dynastie will be held at Theatre Maisonneuve.

The mission of the Gala is to honor the accomplishments of members of the black community in Quebec.

Celebrated as part of Black History Month, this festive and unifying event aims to recognize the genius, talent, work and passion that drive key players in Quebec society. This gala is much more than just an awards ceremony. It is a showcase that sheds light on the sometimes unexposed achievements of highly talented personalities and, above all, to demonstrate that diversity is essential in our society and that it needs to be celebrated more often.

The Gala aims to ensure that the image and achievements of black communities in Quebec are conveyed in a positive way in the social, cultural and artistic spheres.

Each year, some twenty Dynastie trophies will be awarded to dedicate the talent and excellence of artisans from the cultural, artistic and media communities of Quebec. A jury of approximately 30 hand-picked members conduct a rigorous analysis to determine the finalists and winners in each category.

This fourth edition of The Dynastie Gala that officially closes Black History Month will include a red carpet , a lavish after party cocktail and numerous musical performances all evening long.
