50th Anniversary of Robert Garrow Murder Spree and Manhunt

50-years ago this summer, in August of 1973, residents & vacationers in the Adirondacks were living in fear, terrorized by a serial killer named Robert Garrow who had stabbed 4 young people to death. Garrow was on the loose & on the run, eluding what was then the largest manhunt in New York State history, until he was finally tracked down, shot, wounded & captured in Essex County. What played out after his arrest is the subject of a book by award-winning newspaper reporter Jim Tracy who is the author of Sworn to Silence: The Truth Behind Robert Garrow and the Missing Bodies Case.
Author Jim Tracy joins us to talk about his book, the murders, manhunt and Garrow’s murder trial, and how his lawyers handled his case and in particular his confession, is still debated in ethics classes in law schools across the country to this day.
