The SUNY Plattsburgh Zombie Defense League and ROTA Gallery and Studios are hosting the 4th annual Zombie Walk and Prom on Saturday, October 13th at 6PM Zombie walks have become an international phenomenon These walks encourage participants to dress up as ghoulish zombies Participants of all ages and backgrounds come out by the hundreds to celebrate the season of ghosts, goblins, vampires and of course- zombies Zombies shamble around cities everywhere scaring the living and having a raucous good time
Each year, the Plattsburgh zombie walk and prom has grown exponentially The general premise for the event is simple: to have fun, be silly, and show your creative side There have been individuals with amazing make up and costumes, and even entire families who develop innovative themed costumes “The community really comes together for the walk It is amazing to see strangers find commonality and have a conversation over something as simple as make up tricks” says Matt Hall, a Zombie Prom Organizer Local organizations will also be present at the walk and prom, including Reality Check, a teen movement working against the tobacco industry Reality Check Program Assistant Erica Olmstead said, “We are incredibly excited to participate in such a fun, positive event” Lieutenant Beebie from the Plattsburgh Police department said “We’ve worked together with event organizers every year and are pleased to state we have seen no incidents or issues of safety We are looking forward to continued success and safety of this event”
This year’s Zombie Walk will begin at 6PM at the Farmers and Crafters Market located in the Durkee street parking lot in downtown Plattsburgh Participants are asked to register and line up from 6:00-6:30 Donations will be accepted which will benefit the ROTA Gallery and Studios, an all-ages music and arts venue, and the SUNY Plattsburgh Zombie Defense League The walk will then proceed through downtown and shuffle down Broad Street, where it will end at the SUNY Plattsburgh’s campus for the Zombie Prom The prom is free and participants are encouraged to enjoy live music and entertainment, including a performance by the Haus of Starr and more The prom will take place in the Angell College Center Ballrooms until 10PM.
The ROTA Gallery and Studios was founded in 2010 in Plattsburgh, NY. ROTA isa downtown not-for-profit cooperative art space operated for and by the community.
