SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Teachers’ Association (SLTA) will hold its 3rd Annual Shop Drop Eat Event in Downtown Saranac Lake on Thursday, December 06, 2012.
The event challenges association members to purchase at least one Christmas present at 36 participating local business. Members are also encouraged to drop off can goods for the local food pantry at the Blue Moon Café. Each purchase qualifies members for a raffle.
The idea for the event was developed by Joe Thill, a history teacher at Saranac Lake High School and Vice-President of SLTA. Melissa Devit, President of SLTA says that participation has grown since the event began and now teachers at each building within the District compete with each other to see which building has the greatest participation.
The event provides teachers a chance to do some Christmas shopping while supporting local businesses and donating food to needy families.
Shop, Drop, and Eat is so well-received by participating businesses that this year SLTA worked with the Village of Saranac Lake Downtown Committee and several other institutions to expand the event. This year, employees of Trudeau Institute, St. Joseph's Addiction Treatment & Recovery Center, and North Country College are also eligible to participate. Organizers hope that collective participation from these institutions will result in more sales for participating businesses and more food donated for the food pantry.
