D.C. BOUND FOR A SECOND YEAR!
Paul Larson with spelling bee grand champion Grant Decker
Congratulations to Grant Decker of Beekmantown Middle School. He outlasted more than 60 competitors to win the 2016 Regional Spelling Bee which was held at Beekmantown Central School Friday night. Decker became the grand champion for the second year in a row, after correctly spelling “acanthus” to seal the victory. Bee sponsor The Press Republican along with community donors will pay the travel and hotel expenses for Decker and a chaperon to visit Washington, DC this May, where he will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
This year, students from twenty-five school buildings in Clinton and Essex County competed in the program.
Each school had held contests to determine the top speller in each grade level. These students then went to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee.
