Satisfying Adirondack appetites and quenching thirsts since 1933, the Belvedere Restaurant throbs with activity in the heart of Saranac Lake. The Cavallo family founded the business, and they still run it proudly. With offerings ranging from Italian dishes made from old family recipes to the latest high-hopped microbrews, the "Bel," as loyal patrons call it, offers a delicious escape from the mad, mad world outside. Here the raging river of time slows to a sane pace, and the chicken parmigiana is always as warm as the welcome.
Check out author Ed Kanze's latest book Adirondack: Life and Wildlife in the Wild, Wild East. The Wall Street Journal says, “Mr. Kanze’s way of circling back on himself, wondering if he is crazy to try to live in this place in this way, is oddly reassuring … We root for the Kanzes when freezing trees crack like rifle shots all night long, when hard frosts in July and August turn their carefully tended tomato plants to sad mush. We wonder how and why they do it, even as we wonder why we do what we do and live where we live. And we are comforted, knowing such brave and capable people wonder too.” Learn more by clicking here.
