Nova Bus Wins Major Contact: The Nova Bus factory in Plattsburgh has landed a 148-million dollar contract for 300 of its energy-efficient smart buses to the Chicago transit authority. The deal also includes the option for another 150 buses. Lands a huge new contract. Nova bus the contract will help keep its workforce of 200 on the job through 2014.
New Lease On Life: The closed Pfizer research lab in Chazy, New York has been purchased by the Podd family from Montreal for an undisclosed price. The family owns the Powertex company based in rouses point which manufactures bulk-shipping containers. The company is planning to its operations currently based in Texas to the former Pfizer site in Chazy creating about 20 new jobs.
Major Expansion In The Adirondacks: Work is underway on a 10-million dollar renovation at the St. Joseph’s rehabilitation center in Saranac Lake, NY. The project will also include the construction of a 2-million dollar veteran’s center.
Show Of Unity: A rally is held at Plattsburgh State University after some hateful comments are shouted at students taking part in a “take back the night march” on campus last weekend.
Eating Peanuts: A 6-year old from northern New York is overcoming the peanut allergy that threatens his life in an unusual way.
Go Digital Or Go Dark: The Adirondack North Country Association and the Adirondack Film Society have teamed up to produce a short film that hopes to raise money to assist 10 small, independent movie theaters in the Adirondacks facing the staggering expense of having to convert their theaters from film to digital projectors.
