With the summer weather finally setting in, Montreal's second annual year of food trucks are beginning to appear. Prior to last year, food trucks had been banned within the city of Montreal since 1947 due to hygiene concerns. Finally the city decided to incorporate the food trucks back into the city in 2013 by allowing ten downtown vehicles.
For safety, the food trucks must be associated with an established restaurant. The exciting part about the food trucks in Montreal is not only the hype and the fun around the concept, but also the accessibility and affordable prices.
An online food truck finder has been developed providing maps, information, and photos. If you are walking around Square Victoria in downtown Montreal a notable truck to try is Das Food Truck owned by a chef in Montreal. The owner explains how he serves Bavarian food but with a Montreal twist. This is a common theme among the food trucks where you can find varieties of smoked meat sandwiches and poutines of all sorts.
The food trucks are open May 1st to October 5th and are quickly situating themselves as a Montreal summer staple. To visit the food trucks or for more information, check the links posted below.
