The Will Rogers Senior Outing Club’s October event will be a trip to Silver Lake Bog, near Hawkeye, New York, on Tuesday, October 27th, 2015. This Nature Conservancy Preserve offers bog plants, boreal birds rare in the Northeast, a ½ mile boardwalk and a ¾ mile trail to bluffs overlooking Silver Lake. Naturalist and Adirondack Guide Ed Kanze will lead the group and talk about the flora and fauna of both the bog and the woods along the trail to the bluffs. Late migratory birds may be seen as well as resident birds such as the black-backed woodpecker and boreal chickadee.
The Saranac Village at Will Rogers Senior Outing Club is open to all seniors (55+) interested in venturing out for moderate activity at various locations around the area. Activities are held on the last Tuesday of every month. The club's mission is to “offer seniors the chance to enjoy outdoor adventures with companionship, safety and fun.”
This program is open to the public. Departure from Will Rogers will be at 9:30 a.m. There is no fee for the walk. Lunch will be at The Laughing Hen in Saranac ($3.95 and up). Please dress for all kinds of weather and wear sturdy footwear. In order to attend, reservations must be made. Please RSVP by calling Debbie Kanze at (518) 891-7117.
