Dr. Dan Milz, Assistant Professor of Environmental Planning at the Center for Earth & Environmental Science at SUNY Plattsburgh, will be presenting on The Science of Prediction Meets the Art of Planning on Monday, April 18 in the next Science@30City series. Dr. Milz asserts that humans are bad at predicting the future. "Scientific research has concluded that most (but not all) of our predictions are often wrong. Our guesses lead us down blind alleys, inviting personal and/or collective peril. Alas, there is hope."
This talk will explore the limitations of human cognition and the biases that inhibit our ability to see into the mist. It will also describe how planning can help us overcome them.
