Science@30City continues on October 3rd at 5:30 pm when Dr. Donald F. Slish, Professor of Biology at SUNY Plattsburgh, presents “The Neuroscience of Opioid Addiction.”
Opiate abuse has become a serious problem in the North Country. These are useful drugs for blunting the feeling of acute and chronic pain but can have the unfortunate side effect of becoming addictive. Why is this? This talk will explain the brain circuits that opiates use to produce their effects, including a pathway that is important to all addictive behaviors and substances.
A free lecture series open to the public, Science@30City covers a broad range of contemporary science and technology topics that impact our community and everyday lives. Future presentations will include Dr. Kathleen Lavoie, who will present “Bat Conservation” on Monday, October 17th at 5:30 pm and Dr. Ken Polodak “Magnets of the Future” on Monday, November 7th at 5:30 pm.
