Science@30City continues on November 7th at 5:30 pm when Dr. Ken Podolak, Associate Professor of Physics at SUNY Plattsburgh, presents “Magnets of the Future.”
Once, magnets were thought to be magical, being able to lift objects without touching them. Dr. Ken Podolak will describe how magnets work and then explore the latest technology using the natural forces of magnets. Learn the science behind maglev (magnetic levitation) trains, magnetic resonance imaging and ferrofluids which can be used to create beautiful images. Lastly, Dr. Podolak will present an update on the field of plasmon resonance which uses magnetic fields and the potential impact of recent discoveries in this field.
A free lecture series open to the public, Science@30City covers a broad range of contemporary science and technology topics that impact our community and everyday lives. Future presentations will include Dr. Curt Gervich with Essex Farm Institute members Kristen Kimball and Racey Billingham “Exploring the Food-Water-Energy Relationship in ADK Farming Communities” on Monday November 21st at 5:30 pm and Dr. Nancy Elwess “Ancient Maya Bones Meet 21st Century Technology” on Monday, December 5th at 5:30 pm
