North Country Lumber Jills Lose in the Last Seconds to Cortland, Look Forward to Match Up Against Syracuse
PLATTSBURGH—After a tough loss in the last seconds against Cortland’s Royal Pains at their season opener on Saturday February 23rd, the Lumber Jills are ready to face the Syracuse Battery Brigade skaters on Saturday March 23rd. The Jills enter the bout with a 1-1 record this season after their victory against the Black Ice Brawlers from Vermont, and the Battery Brigade has a record of 0-1 after playing the B-Sides of Rochester.
The bout will take place at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Center on the U.S. Oval. Doors open to the public at 5:00pm, with the first whistle at 6:00pm. The halftime show will be performed by Reality Check of Plattsburgh that is part a youth action program to fight the tobacco industry.
Stop by Body Art Tattoo, North Country Food Co-Op, and Conroy’s Organics, or http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/262083 to buy your tickets in advance for $10.00 (children ages 5-12 are $5.00, children under 5 are free; general admission tickets are $12.00 at the door on the day of the event).
An important and often overlooked component of the North Country Lumber Jills is community service. Each bout throughout the season is dedicated to a local non-profit organization as part of our efforts to give back to the community. For the Pint of Revenge bout, the Lumber Jills invited the Impeerium Peer Network of Plattsburgh to benefit from the 50/50 raffle. The Impeerium Peer Network is a local organization dedicated to, “assist[ing] Peers along their journey toward recovery by helping them to command the power within themselves to succeed,” and also is, “a peer-based program to provide mutual support for those who have used mental health services or are currently using them.” Mental health is an issue often overlooked in this country and is a cause the Lumber Jills believe is important to support. If you are looking for more information about Reality Check or Impeerium Peer Network, both organizations will be hosting a table at the bout.
The North Country Lumber Jills will be providing food featuring pizza and other snacks and beverages, while Olive Ridley’s will be in charge of the beer garden as well as hosting the after party.
Plattsburgh Roller Derby is a skater-owned and operated roller derby league that formed in the spring of 2010. PRD prides itself in supporting the local community and dedicates its time to furthering the understanding of roller derby and female athleticism.
