Heather Bartos of Glens Falls Leads this One Day Only Event
The NCCCA Arts Center is pleased to be hosting two Drumming Circles on February 2nd for youth and adults. The first circle, for elementary students, will run from 11-11:45am and the second circle, for those 15 and older, will run from 12:30-1:30pm.
During the program, participants will experience playing multiple percussion instruments from around the world and collaborate on group drumming activities.
“We are so pleased to bring World Drumming to the Arts Center,” says Janine Scherline, NCCCA Executive Director. “Through the generosity of donors, this one-day workshop is a low-cost, yet high in value, ‘hands-on’ opportunity that we hope people off all ages will take advantage of.”
“Drumming circles have been popular in the North Country and we are excited to bring Heather to our region to share her knowledge and activities with our community,” says Emily Owens, NCCCA Education Coordinator. “This one-day only event is the perfect chance to learn about music from around the world and have the opportunity to participate in engaging activities.”
Instructor Heather Bartos holds a BA and an MA in Music Education and is a former public school music teacher. She now focuses on early childhood music and multi-cultural music, and has led drumming circles for all ages around the state. Bartos developed her own drumming circle activities based on local and world folk music and has a collection of 20 drums from around the world as well as many other hand held percussion instruments that she will bring to the Arts Center.
The fee for the workshop is $4. Space is limited for this program. To register, call the Arts Center at 563-1604.
The Arts Center is open to visitors Tuesday through Friday, 10am - 5pm and Saturdays, 10am - 4pm. For a complete listing of all classes and workshops, please visit the NCCCA Arts Center’s website at: www.plattsburgharts.org
