NCCCA Announces Spring Theater for Youth Classes
Theater and Improvisation for Children of All Ages and Experiences
The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts (NCCCA Arts Center) is excited to announce the return of its popular Theater for Youth program. The spring session includes offerings in both introductory theater and character development classes for students ages 5-12. Classes begin on April 20th and will be taught by Deb Vanneman.
“We are thrilled to continue our work with Deb Vanneman in our Theater for Youth program,” says Janine Scherline, NCCCA Executive Director. “As an experienced educator, she knows how to combine the right amount of creativity, fun and education for all participants.”
“Theater classes are especially great for children because they foster creativity and build confidence,” adds Emily Owens, NCCCA Education Coordinator.
“Introduction to Theater and Improvisation” allows children ages 5-8 to develop stage skills through improvisation exercises and theater games. Vanneman teaches students about stage movement, give and take between actors, visual and vocal storytelling, and creative focus in this beginner-level class. In the character development class called “What a Character!,” children ages 9-12 learn to interpret scripts, experiment with body lead and different voices, explore a character’s history and point of view, and create a believable and interesting persona on stage.
Both classes are on Saturdays from April 20th through May 4th. Introduction to Theater runs from 10am-12pm, and What a Character! runs from 1-3pm. The cost of the program is $95 or $85 for Arts Center members. For more information or to register, call the Arts Center at 518-563-1604.
The NCCCA is open to visitors Tuesday through Friday, 10am - 5pm and Saturdays, 10am - 4pm. For a full listing of classes, please visit the NCCCA’s website at: www.plattsburgharts.org
