NCCCA Announces New “Abstract” Exhibition in April
Features Paintings and Furniture by Local and Guest Artists
The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts (NCCCA Arts Center) is pleased to present the “Abstract” exhibition, which will display paintings and furniture by local artist Tom Nicholas and guest abstract artist and painter, Tevye Scherline.
“Wherever we go, whatever we experience, we inevitably make an imprint, a trace of the energy left behind,” says Tevye. “My intent is to capture and express some of these imprints, these moments in time. Precisely how each work is interpreted depends wholly on the viewer.”
“All my 50 years in the visual arts have been a Zen meditation on the non-separation of the figure/ground and subject/object,” says Tom Nicholas. “The furniture and cabinetry reflect a personal need to build aesthetically pleasing and practical objects for the residential environment.”
Tevye is a graduate in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art, and has been inspired by people and cultures he has encountered during his travels both within the United States and overseas. He lives with his wife in Huntington, New York, where he focuses on his artwork.
Tom Nicholas, among other endeavors, worked at SUNY Plattsburgh as a graphic designer and as the assistant director of the Meyers Fine Art Gallery. His later work in construction and remodeling allowed him to develop his woodworking skills and his interest in designing furniture. He currently focuses on photography, painting, and furniture making.
“We’re so pleased to be hosting the abstract exhibition,” says Shawna Armstrong, NCCCA Gallery and Graphics Coordinator, “We’ll be welcoming Spring with the bright, bold and colorful images on display in the Main Gallery.”
The opening reception for the “Abstract” exhibition will be held on Friday, April 19th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the exhibition will be on display from April 19 through May 11.
The NCCCA Arts Center is open to visitors Tuesday through Friday, 10am - 5pm and Saturdays, 10am - 4pm. For more information about upcoming events and exhibitions, please visit the NCCCA Arts Center’s website at: www.plattsburgharts.org
