Science@30City continues Monday, March 7th with Dr. Danielle Garneau presenting “Microplastic Pollution in the Lake Champlain Food Web”. Microplastics are plastics less than a quarter inch in size that are either made for cosmetics (think tiny beads in toothpaste) or the degradation product of larger plastics brought about by exposure to sunlight or mechanical degradation. Microplastics pollution has been in the news lately, but is this new form of pollution a problem for our local bodies of fresh water and the wildlife that inhabit them?
A free lecture series open to the public, Science@30City covers a broad range of contemporary science and technology topics that impact our community and everyday lives. Future presentations will include Dr. Daniel Milz presenting “The Science of Prediction Meets the Art of Planning” on Monday March 21st at 5:30 pm and Dr. Linda Luck’s “Molecular Gastronomy – The Science behind Cooking” on Monday April 4th at 5:30 pm.
