The Montreal women’s choral group Choeur Maha will soon be joined by special guests Choromondo—a fellow women’s choir from the Eastern Townships—for MahaMondo, an eclectic performance of world vocal music. All are welcome on December 7th at 8 p.m. in Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, 400 Saint Paul Street East. Also known as the Sailor’s Church, this atmospheric stone chapel was founded by Marguerite Bourgeoys, a visionary women’s educator from Montreal’s early days.
The evening’s program will feature musical traditions as diverse as those of Finland, China, South Africa and Macedonia. Admission is $20, or $15 for seniors, those who are underemployed and students.
Now a registered charity, Choeur Maha is known for its support of women’s organizations throughout Montreal. It has delighted audiences for over two decades with its creative repertoire, its high-energy performances and a decidedly non-traditional take on choral music.
