In this one day class students will make a 6 lb blacksmith's striking hammer (sledge hammer), starting with a block of medium carbon steel and will go home with a finished tool ready to use. The class will cover tool design, hot punching, drifting, forging, grinding, and basic heat treating as pertaining to handled striking tools. There will be a choice of forging a cross peen, straight peen, or rounding style sledge. Students will work in three person groups with an emphasis on using a sledge for striking at the anvil. Must be 18 years or older. Experience level-Qualified beginner, some forging experience. Students should bring their favorite hand hammer if they have one.

NOTE: THE ONE DAY HAND FORGED HAMMER CLASS IS A PREREQUISITE FOR THIS CLASS! Hard shoes and long pants are required for student safety.
