Saranac Lake Native, Gail Gallagher, will perform her one-woman Cabaret show at Saranac Village at Will Rogers inspired by Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers and Cole Porter entitled “Sweet Swing.”
Gail grew up in Saranac Lake and began singing at special gatherings at a young age. After working in radio, TV and educational media in Boston, she decided to pursue her love of music and began a professional singing career. Since then, she has performed for hundreds of audiences along the east coast and has won rave reviews for her performances and CD's from music and theatre critics including VARIETY, the Boston Herald and PBS radio and TV.
Gail produced her CD "Warm as a Late Spring Day" with her accompanist and arranger, EMMY award winner and Boston Pops pianist, Brad Hatfield. "A Singer's Dream Team" is how Gail refers to the musicians who played with her on the CD: Brad Hatfield on keyboards, Marty Richards, of the Gary Burton band, on drums, popular jazz musician Dave Burdett on trumpet and additional percussion by Jon Chase, of the Berklee College of Music. Gail and her band have added a modern twist to songs that touch our hearts from the 30's, 40's and 50's, like "Cheek to Cheek" and "My Favorite Things."
For Gail, singing at Will Rogers is a joy as she describes in one of her newsletters to her fans. "One of my favorite places to perform in the Adirondacks is at Saranac Village at Will Rogers - a lively retirement community filled with terrific people - where many public concerts are held. Built in 1928, it used to be a tuberculosis sanatorium providing free care for professional entertainers. Many a variety artist has graced the stage there. My grandmother was a vaudevillian herself. I can imagine the presence of those turn-of-the century performers when I step on to the stage or walk into the Great Room. I am blessed to be performing at Will Rogers again this summer, amidst family and friends."
