The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society announces the second installment of the 2016 Winter Lecture Series scheduled on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in Lake Placid. Presented by Historic Saranac Lake, the film “Hotel Hope” tells the story of the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital, where those affected by tuberculosis in the entertainment industry came to seek treatment.
Originally planned to be a short 15 minute film, research had surfaced more information to create an in depth story. “Hotel Hope” features original footage and contemporary interviews with former patients and employees of the hospital.
Producer Jim Griebsch and Historic Saranac Lake received support by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation to create and debut the film to the public last October. The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is pleased to host another showing of this film to the community this month. In creating the feature, they received assistance from Leslie Hoffman, historian for Will Rogers Memorial Hospital and Caroline Welsh, director emerta of the Adirondack Museum.
