Two for Christmas is two shows in one.
Act 1 features Budbill’s faithful translation of a 15th century miracle play “The Second Shepherd’s Play” - a fun, yet reverent, parody that’s all in verse. It is set at the time of Christ’s birth.
A thief steals a lamb. Realizing he's been followed, his wife jumps into bed to pretend the lamb is her newborn baby. Returning to their flock after the discovering the ruse, the shepherds come upon an Angel who announces Christ's birth.
Act 2 features Budbill’s "Judevine" version of the same story with Antoine, Arnie, Doug, & Tommy in 1979 rural Vermont. Called Pulp Cutter’s Nativity, a chain saw replaces the lamb, and the Angel is a waitress in the local diner. The same actors appear in both versions.
A warm-hearted evening intended for the whole family, Two for Christmas is a modern alternative to A Christmas Carol.
