ChoralFest 2016 Concert Features Fauré ‘Requiem’ at United Methodist Church
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (February 24, 2016) — The Department of Music at SUNY Plattsburgh presents its annual ChoralFest Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15, at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, 127 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, N.Y.
College Chorale and Cardinal Singers combine to perform Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, a major work for chorus, soloists and orchestra. Full of lyricism and harmonies that are found in Romanticism and Impressionism, Requiem will be the centerpiece of the concert. The professional orchestra will perform the original chamber version written by Fauré in 1888.
The performance will feature graduating senior, Ayrice Wilson (BA in music), as soprano soloist in the ethereal “Pie Jesu.” Baritone guest artist, Darik Knudsen, sings the well-known “Libera me.”
Director Jo Ellen Miano is delighted to showcase each talented college ensemble in separate repertoire, as well. College Chorale performs works by Dowland, Hassler, and Brahms. Cardinal Singers performs Johannes Brahms’ Motet, Op. 29, a setting of three verses from Psalm 51, beginning with “Create in me a pure heart, O God.”
Tickets are $9/$6/$3 through Plattsburgh.universitytickets.com, the Angell College Center Information Desk, or at the door.
