In 2008, Tim DeChristopher was "bidder 70" at a Bureau of Land Management oil and gas lease auction. He protected thousands of acres of pristine public land from oil and gas development. His action resulted in his arrest and charges of federal felonies. He was tried and sentenced to 2 years in jail.
